“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot; Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
Those words of The Lorax, as penned by Dr. Seuss, inspired The Triumph Fund when it was founded, just over one year ago. Not surprisingly, they continue to inspire The Triumph Fund.
Last year’s event was a huge success. We had over 160 attendees fill the beautiful Ballroom at the Wisconsin Club and, by the end of 2013, had donated almost $30,000 to the Clinical Trials Office (CTO) at the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center (MCW). Thus far over $45,000 has been donated to the CTO.
We are now earnestly planning our 2014 event. The Triumph Fund has chosen the evening of Sunday, August 17, 2014, to hold its annual fundraising event, which this year we have named Honoring The Lorax II. We will gather once again at the Wisconsin Club in Milwaukee to enjoy food and drink, meet new friends, and learn how clinical trials offer hope to cancer patients. This evening is not just an encore to The Triumph Fund’s 2013 event, Honoring The Lorax; it is much more. We also will learn of the progress being made by MCW in its efforts to be designated a National Cancer Institute Cancer Center, of which there are only 68 in the country. We will see that an increase in the number and type of clinical trials a cancer center conducts is a factor considered by the NCI in deciding which cancer centers merit this prestigious designation – a designation which will offer a significant economic benefit to this community and likely will led to an increased presence of pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, and additional scientific talent to the area.
Because The Triumph Fund’s goal is to raise funds to assist theCTO and thus help bring hope to cancer patients, during this evening the fund will attempt to raise money for this very worthy cause. The almost $30,000 it donated last year to the CTO has been put to good use in, among other things, educating the CTO staff. We have just submit a post on this blog that details the use of those funds to date. Please go to the Musings tab of this blog to see that post.
Details about Honoring The Lorax II are now set forth on our website. If you have any interest in this cause and did not receive an email with a Save The Date notice, please visit our website – thetriumphfund.org – or send us a message (john@thetriumphfund.org) and we will provide you with the needed information. Please share this information with others who you believe may have an interest in joining us for an enjoyable evening that supports a life-saving cause.
In the meantime, below are some photos from our 2013 event:
